Fall Retreat Take Aways

It’s Saturday night on our Fall Retreat. All the students are grouped up by campus and are sharing some of their take-aways from the retreat. Want to listen to what they said?

Israel stood up and announced, “I want to pour my life into younger students.” Then Caroline stood. “I want to grow more in knowing about Jesus.”

You can imagine that Malisa, the rest of our staff, and I were so excited to hear our students making significant commitments to take the gospel to heart. We really wanted you to hear some of their comments.

Prayer Requests

Would you pray?

  • For each of these students (and 320 others who came to the fall retreat) – that the decisions they made would carry on as they return to campus.
  • For the 35 students from Boston who we are bringing to a special weekend (Nov 4-6) to consider serving the Lord full time after graduation either here or overseas.
  • For Caitlyn (pictured above) as she journeys with several friends.

A bunch More next steps

The little thought bubbles above just begin to scratch the surface of what our students said. Here’s another 60:

  • The culmination of this semester and fall retreat has been a game changer. My habits and thoughts have been slowly melded to be more intentional: something that is against my normal self. God is quieting my heart to serve him in a more action oriented walk in following Christ. I want to be a leader on campus but that the time commitment makes people doubt my ability. I want to be a consistent, thoughtful, reliable leader to my team.
  • My next step: I want to learn how to be a Christian outside the Christian environment. I want to be able to know how to share the word of God in an intimate way with the people I know and love most in the world – my family.
  • I need to start viewing every moment as an opportunity to show/share christ, not just the moments I choose. Intentionally make sure I’m being a good influence/example in relationships with freshmen girls.
  • I need to give my relationship to him and pray more so that I can help others with their relationships.
  • I would like to have more one-on-one with my freshmen but be able to better use tools
  • Share with friends who don’t know him
  • My next step is open communication. This weekend really talked to my heart about telling about myself to become closer to the people around me and don’t worry about judgements. God really spoke to me about sharing my story and saying that sometimes it’s ok to talk about yourself.
  • I want to make sure God’s calling, to be a full time missionary
  • My greatest desire for this year is to see my roommates come to Christ. My next step in that process is to be bold when opportunities come up and share with them and also for the opportunities to come up. So I think what would be most helpful would be prayer.
  • To really be salt on my campus with a new movement.
  • To learn how to disciple students
  • Become more and more reliant on the Lord to see what he can do
  • Take steps to further my artwork to show the Lord
  • spend consistent time in the Word
  • Learn to recognize the leading of the Holy Spirit
  • Share the gospel with all the guys on my floor, and bring them to a point of decision.
  • I want to share about how amazing God is and how it is by his grace that we’ve been saved. I want to let the ones Have no what Jesus has done in my life and how he loves them so much. I want to strengthen my walk by delving into the scriptures more. Trusting God that his plan for me is to prosper not to harm.
  • Next step: continuing to go to life group and setup all it has to offer me, and improve on my personal relationship With god
  • I should find some friends who can make me want to be a better Christian (should change some friends)
  • I would like to learn how to share Christ’s message with others in a clear and relevant manner as well as opportunities to share it on-campus
  • My next step is: learning what the Lord’s will for my life is and trusting he has a plan for me so that I never have to stress, overanalyze, don’t worry.
  • I don’t want to rely on my community of Christian friends. I want to get out of the saltshaker and be confident of my relationship with God.
  • I want to get into a more personal relationship with God and learn how to disciple others.
  • That I can trust God with the plan he has for me, that i can understand he does have one and he has listen to me.
  • To be salt to the campus of BU
  • praying and praying boldly for the campus
  • praying for opportunities to share my faith through action and words to people I know God has specifically put in my life.
  • Reaching in building up the guys in my life group. Reaching the workplace. Surrendering all to him.
  • I need to start making disciples on campus and focus on helping others grow. I want to go deeper in my life groups and teach others how they can be disciples, how God has given us his Holy Spirit.
  • Being intentional with people on my floor, boldly reaching out. Having a more Christ centered daily life – focusing more on.
  • Sharing with my roommates, sharing with random people, seeing people how Jesus sees them.
  • Next step: shake it up and get out of the saltshaker more often! The key to evangelism is intentionality. Eternal life is now, the rest are details. I realized I’ve been trying to drink ??? things into the spirit filled life God has been calling me to and it is because I haven’t fully let go my plans for my life and the securities cling to the world.
  • I would like to be more involved at city walk – music, maybe mc.
  • I want to get better sharing my faith.
  • My next step will be intentionally sharing the gospel with my suite mates.
  • Don’t be impatient, because even though we might not see something happening right now, who knows what time do five years time, or even to the time because I know that last or I can see the big picture, but looking back now I can Start piece the puzzle together.
  • Hopefully join a small group. I also want to learn how to explain Christianity better people question.
  • Next step: turn away from sin and temptation, turn closer to God. Also, begin to spread the gospel with others around Boston.
  • God is ready to work through some stuff that I need freedom. Being accountable to my life group. Spending time with God daily.
  • This is my first time joining fall retreat and learning about God. So I think I would like to know some basic knowledge about Christianity.
  • As I will graduate soon and will begin to work, I hope to be able to dedicate a part of my time to build a real relationship with God. I wish to have a balanced life with my belief, my job, my friends, and my family.
  • Get answers about Christianity and about Jesus that could help stabilize and strengthen the relationship between Jesus and me.
  • Learn more about Jesus and the Bible historically
  • Let God continue to guide me through the way of searching his glory.
  • Learn where my family is spiritually, particularly my sisters: really challenging my twin sis. share with her in an appropriate non-condescending way; starting that dialogue with my little sister
  • Not being afraid to talk about my faith.
  • There’s actually two big steps that I need to take next year:
  • 1. Take my quiet times to a deeper level. I want to grow in God as well as be filled by him.
  • 2. Be more open about the gospel with my immediate circle of influence.
  • Identifying areas of my life that are idols to me and where I have not given them to God. Then finding ways to bring God to those areas.
  • Get more involved in Cru at BU
  • Learning how to everyday live like Jesus is the real and vibrant source of my life. Really genuinely owning my faith that I so easily talk about.
  • I thought it was very interesting how Bob shared a quote about assurance of faith not being something shown in the past but of the present. I think I just need prayer to know what that looks like for me. I also know that I need to know God better and let him know me
  • I think my perspective gets clouded by all the details of life (School, family, ministry) rather than being focused on God more than anything. I think one of the biggest next steps is to surrender those details to the Lord in terms of what my next step is after college.
  • Just being all of what God wants and needs out of me
  • Being the person people think of when they think of a warm-heartedness or Jesus in general
  • Learning to accept God into my life
  • Not only just going through the motions, but truly surrendering my faith and life to God
  • “Walk towards a life of missions until God closes that door!” I can’t stop thinking about how God wants to use me after graduation.
  • I want to be more Jesus-like. I hope Jesus can give me wisdom and confidence so that I can not only grow in faith but also reach out and serve others
  • Next step: how to share the gospel and God’s love in a clear way among my residents and staff RA’s. Boldness and taking opportunities without seeming like Im forcing them to believe.
  • I want to make God my first priority every day, not just a last minute thought.
  • I want to trust God in every part of my life, not just certain parts.
  • For me I think I want to be more bold about sharing my faith but doing it in just the right amounts (just enough salt)
  • I also want to continue putting God first and not letting hobbies, family, or friends temporarily fill the void in my heart that God is meant to occupy.
  • Next steps: become less selfish with time so that God can speak to me and keep me aligned. (this has been not-so-good so far this semester). Be bold with sharing the gospel with suitemates (salt out of shaker)
  • Next step: Shining the light of God’s love and good news to the world around me, specifically, those on my campus
  • Next Step: consistently having quiet time every day. learn how to reach out to strangers, to share the gospel. Find a way to take part in praise and worship
  • Use my gifts for God’s glory
  • Next step: Be more confident in reaching out to others (better communication skills). Share/be living testimony
  • Reaching out better and more confidently
  • Making sure every aspect of my life reflects the Gospel
  • Trusting that God has a plan for my future
  • I feel like my next step is actually going back to the basics and really rediscovering and understanding why I serve God. I hope to break free from legalism and fear.
  • I want to have God as my first and foremost priority in my life. I want to learn how to grow closer to Him through His word, and learn to share my faith.
  • I had time this weekend to really reevaluate what I focus my life on and how I’ve really hardened my heart to God’s Spirit
  • Not feeling alone/not not having a Christian community
  • Discernment in what God’s plan is for me
  • Having/avoiding a community that I’m comfortable in (cru, church, ministry) getting plugged in
  • Answers/directions in finding truth/security in God’s will for my life/my relationship with him
  • Answers in questions in relation to apologetics (from a person, rather than watching sermons online) on my own)
  • An accountability partner/a Christian friend
  • I want to be able to understand the word of God more. I also want to get closer to Jesus and feel closer to Jesus.
  • Trust God more and know that I don’t have to be afraid (Be more courageous)
  • My next step is to help share the gospel with my roommate. She is interested in Jesus but she is not totally convinced. I want to be a living example of what it looks like to be a Christian
  • Continue reaching people on my campus and gaining more community with students from Boston.
  • Growing in wisdom and becoming closer to God throughout the year.
  • I really want to learn how to help others come to Christ and I want to be a real encouragement to those who have already found him and help them to continue to follow him.
  • I was really inspired and encourage to share the Gospel boldly. My roommate and I are going to be intentional to share with some of the lads on our floor
  • I want to figure out how to surrender my all to Jesus
  • I want to find time to rest in the Lord and be filled and revived by Him
  • I want to know how to share the gospel with people on my floor in a meaningful way.
  • I want to be bold to express my faith.
  • I want to build my prayer life.
  • I would like to get more involved as a leader in Cru. As a Junior, I feel like I could definitely begin having more responsibility within the ministry, and help lead and help with new believers
  • Become solid in my faith and educated about the Bible
  • I want to start a movement at Simmons college and bring Christ to the campus (carry on)
  • Sharing the gospel with my non-Christian friends
  • I am really interested in getting connected in a life group! This has been a great trip to realize some things about myself that I didn’t know before
  • Be more bold and share my faith.
  • Really become the salt of the earth and not be timid but proclaim the Gospel to those around me
  • Keep praying and start a prayer movement on Boston University which will snowball into a revival on our campus. Hopefully, every Christian on campus will catch the fire and lift up the name of Jesus!
